A womenswear designer, Katie’s work reflects a strong sense of femininity, focusing on manipulating and accentuating the female silhouette.  Design identity is chic with funky edge, collaborating maturity and sophistication.

Katie uses displacement and subversion of garment’s components in design and engineering, particularly in tailoring.  Fascinated with cut and shape, Katie demonstrates versatility in pattern cutting and construction, using elements of tailoring, sportswear and eveningwear manufactured to a high standard.  She has technical awareness for toilling and composing patterns, and uses it to manipulate conventional aspects of pattern cutting for unique inventions.

Experimentation with morphing opposing social styles, she clashes ‘Chav’ culture with ‘Glamour’ allure to interpret into a sporty, relaxed yet glamorous, sexy look.  Attention is placed upon ‘hoodies’ and ‘trackies’ of the chav image and the floaty skirts and plunging necklines of Marylin Monroe.  Intended for young women, 18-25, the collection represents unique, high end day and eveningwear for a casual, elegant and chic image.

Katie’s drawing skills are of a high standard, which she uses to produce coherent technical drawings and fashion illustrations that include photography and textiles.

Collection details

The current spring/summer 2008 collection uses cut, panelling and body-conscious fit of sportswear mixed with pleating, tailoring and silhouette of the 1940s.  The collection has a sleek, athletic vibe, merged with a tranquil feminine look.  The combined contrast is reflected in fabric choice; Lycra and foil on Spandex with crepe silk, chiffon and cotton.  The collection is playful and cheeky with its luminous colour and print, yet has had careful consideration for cut and fit through engineering processes.  Katie has displaced and removed seams from their standard positions and crafted complex panelling and adaptations in pattern cutting.

Her next step is to focus on her interest in subversion of tailoring and style, to produce outer-wear for a winter collection.
